Around 50 automobiles have been marked with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Cars, exterior walls and mailboxes were marked, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Police say they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a resident noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued liquid.
The liquid had been placed in the form of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then located multiple other vandalized automobiles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are banned in Germany under laws banning the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police say initial examinations show the liquid was most likely human bodily fluid.
"There is still no lead as to its source; officials are presently not aware of any harm in association with the incident," they stated.
Municipal representatives said they were trying "to solve the case" and have requested to the residents for tips.
A high-ranking political figure said the vandalism made him without words and had to be solved rapidly.
"This incident strikes at the center of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the right-wing terrorist attack half a decade ago," he stated on a platform, recalling the murder of nine victims by a assailant aiming at people of migrant background in five years prior.
